Torrevieja in brief:

Torrevieja is relatively new in historical terms and only dates back to 1802, where there was only an old tower and a few houses in the area.

The entire area around Torrevieja is dominated by huge salt lakes which saw the growth of the area. The area actually produces a million tons of salt a year making it one of Europes largest producers.

Torrevieja is home to many sandy beaches the longest of which can be found at La Mata in the north of the resort.

Worth a visit is the Church of "La Immaculata Conception" and the famous museum of sea and salt.

The area has many bars and restaurants which offer a wide range of cuisine.
